Brixton Village launches free live music nights

Catch musicians, bands and DJs three nights a week for the rest of the month

Local husband and wife DJ duo Chris Ellis and Cyndi Anafo – aka the Hands On Family – have been appointed by the new owners of Brixton Village and Market Row to install the first curated music programme for the market as a whole in Brixton Village’s 81-year history.

Chris and Cyndi have been DJing and promoting independent black music in London for nearly 20 years having co-founded the Brixton Village-based lifestyle store United80 and later created a pop-up bar in the market called Snugg, where they curated performances from local and international artists and DJs. So it’s no surprise they’re now driving this month’s upcoming live-music shows.

November’s line-up will also see the launch of Ram Jam Revival, a monthly Sunday afternoon homage to the famous club of the same name. (For the uninitiated, The Ram Jam Club first opened on the Brixton High Road in 1966 and hosted some of the UK’s most celebrated black music acts of the 1960s, as well as US blues and soul artists including Otis Redding, The Yardbirds and Nina Simone.) Here’s what to expect:

30 November (7pm – 10:30pm) – NOVA & LORSTEN (GO GO SOUND SYSTEM): Bringing you the Friday post working week wind down vinyl vibes. Journeying through soul funk, jazz, disco, boogie and beyond with an eye on past, present and future music.
