Pinboard 28 August: The Internal World, art in East Street Market

Walworth: The Internal World Exhibition – tonight!

INTERNALWORLDshow_somewhereto_ poster4This is how it feels to be lonely. No, not the song but the theme of a one-night only exhibition in a rather special temporary shop in East Street Market tonight. Locals to the Walworth market street might already have noticed the perky somewhereto_  re:store shop, which has been in situ for the past six weeks, showcasing some of south London’s most talented and entrepreneurial creatives. Now its in its last week, the shop is hosting some celebratory showcases (and we’ll have more on another event tomorrow).

So if you’re passing by on the way home from work this evening, drop in and check out the show, put together by four enterprising friends. As you read this, the shop is being transformed into a fairy tale style den, using animation, film, artwork, prose and performance. The theme? Isolation, says Becca Hyman, one of the artists involved: “The exhibition was born of a short film exploring the loneliness and disconnect we feel in a busy, digitalised world. We are a thousand people at once, and yet faceless and indistinct from the next person. In this state we create an internal world of our lives and selves. Some of it is rooted in madness, some in childlike wonder. The work tonight is all about exploring this unknown side of ourselves.”

Check out the short film in question in the clip below.

The artists are: Becca Hyman, an illustrator and  filmmaker studying at Central Saint Martin’s, Tetley Clarke an illustrator/animator and Camberwell student, Freddee Lewis, an animator from the London College of Communication and Frankie Drew, a writer currently working on her first novel.

The Internal World happens tonight only, Wednesday August 28 2013, 7-9pm, 54-55 East Street Market, SE17. Free entry. Prints and books for sale.
