Pinboard: south London as art, film for free and sexy riverside housing

6. Community-hearted Clapham Pottery is at risk of closure: help save it

Clapham Pottery 1 Clapham Pottery is an SW4 community institution, running classes for the elderly, young carers, the homeless and children from low-income backgrounds – as well as sessions for those who can afford to pay.

But now their premises – a 1922-built former boys’ home – is under threat. Lambeth Council is selling off its community buildings, and offering existing tenants first right to buy them –which the not-for-profit organisation that runs the Pottery wants very much to do. It also wants to run more of its classes for those with varying special needs, which have suffered due to funding cuts.

They need to raise £175,000 to buy the building and say that all donations, large and small will go directly towards this. The building will otherwise be sold off and there is no guarantee of its continued community use.
