7. Sewing
We love the idea of saving money on clothes – even being able to do super simple stuff like making cushions. If you do too but, like us, are useless with a sewing machine (and also have one gathering dust under the stairs), then this is the ultimate beginners’ sewing class. It is taught by Jolanta Cerniauskiene, who makes dresses for the colourful fashion designer Zandra Rhodes, no less. Well, if you’re going to learn a new skill, you may as well go straight to the top, eh?
The day-long workshop, which takes place at Bermondsey’s Fashion and Textile Museum (founded by Rhodes) will teach everything from reacquainting you with your sewing machine to sewing techniques for different fabrics. It promises to furnish attendees with “top tips, easy steps and the confidence to make-and-mend clothes”. You’ll also get free entry into the gorgeous-looking Kaffe Fassett exhibition in the museum.
Sewing Machine 101 takes place on Saturday 13 April from 11am-4.30pm and costs £70. You can book by phone on: 020 7407 8664
