We loved Travis Elborough’s brilliantly bizarre Wednesday Picture story yesterday about the sale, in the 1960s, of London Bridge to an Arizona oilman. Yep. Our 1831 John Rennie-built SE1 river crossing now stands in a desert resort. What we hadn’t heard, yesterday, was Cilla Black’s 1969 B-side recording of London Bridge. A lament about lost love – and a lost bridge. Sob. Click to listen to it above…
“Now they’ve taken London Bridge away
We found love there
They’ve taken London Bridge away
Now it’s not there
But I will keep a place in my heart
For London Bridge was there at the start of our looooovvveee…”
