Pinboard: media fame, secret urban gardens and Shakespearian suppers

3. A Shakesperian supper

Shakesperian supperContinuing on the Vauxhall vibe, here’s something to do there on Tuesday evening – in celebration of the Bard’s birthday. While others down pints beneath St George Cross flags to toast the day of our dragon-slaying English patron saint, you could be chowing down on a Tudor banquet. This special Shakespearian Supper happens on Tuesday 23 April, the world’s most famous playwright’s birthday (and deathday, coincidentally). The celebration is at the Tea House Theatre on the site of what was once the Vauxhall Pleasure Gardens, on the site of Britain’s first ever tea garden and inside a former Victorian pub. The ‘Theatre’ is usually a daytime café, but will be opening its doors again at 7pm on Tuesday.

A warning: it’s not for meat-shirkers. On the (traditional) menu? Wild game pie (rabbit, wild boar, venison and pigeon); spit-roast suckling pig; black pudding. All washed down with honeyed mead and finished off with quince tart and custard. Tickets are £25 per head.
