Pinboard 18 July: a tour of south London’s vanishing prefabs, Italian afternoon cocktails in the market and – ta-da! – our very own art exhibition (well… kinda)

Herne Hill: Lambeth Country Show

CSBanner2012Jerk chicken, reggae, sunburn, ducks doing obstacle courses, jousting displays, the chance to let an owl sit on your arm… the combined joys of the annual Lambeth Country Show are uniquely random.

A south London institution, the Brockwell Park event was nearly cancelled last year “because of the Olympics” (quite how this might have affected the event remained a mystery). But when residents campaigned, the council relented and instead bumped the Show to September – a pretty good testament to how much the event is loved locally. This year it’s back to its usual July spot – with highlights including a rock and pop star themed scarecrow making competition, vegetable sculpting, Alison Limerick live, Manasseh Sound System’s heavy bass – and a Sunday morning sheep workshop.

Where else?

Lambeth Country Show, Brockwell Park, Dulwich Road, SE24.

Next: Sunday afternoon, Italian style – in Brixton Market
