In this north/south London reversal map, all the tube stations normally in north London have been moved south of the river. So here, rather than being at the end of a line, Brixton is buried deep in the centre of the map. And, spreading outwards beneath it, are fantasies including Camberwell Green on the Central Line, Crystal Palace on the Northern Line and the Piccadilly Line stretching, via Tulse Hill, all the way down to Leatherhead. We can but dream…

London with synaesthesia

Brixton tube station tastes of vanilla ice-cream, Kennington station has the flavour of crispy chicken skin and London Bridge is an unappealing dish of lumpy mashed potato. It’s the map that kicked things off: 54-year-old systems administrator, James Wannerton’s bonkers vision of the tube through the prism of his synaesthesia, a neurological condition links tastes to written words. Some of his other surprising observations? Oval tastes of sucked fruit pastilles, Vauxhall is Marmite crisps, and Clapham North was a crisp sandwich. Interestingly, Deptford’s Elverson Road is Vauxhall + Clapham North: a marmite crisp sandwich. But not all stations have edible associations: Elephant and Castle, tastes like wet sand and Waterloo? Well, fizzy water, of course. Hmm… (Check out the north London highlights over at Kentishtowner.)

The anagram map

Can you guess the station names behind these pointless but amusing anagrams: Aleph & Tentacles… Blood Rending… Thalamus Chop…

One line in particular gets some corkers, including Lame Wish, Dutch Emu and, um, Queasy Horn? Can you guess which? Scroll to the end for answers.

We’ve all been there, hopped on the tube without taking any consideration for our full bladders and having to resurface a few stops early and dive into the nearest pub.

Take two minutes at lunch to send this around the office and prevent your pals from getting caught short on the underground.
