Pinboard: Ida Barr Comes to Kennington

She’s performed on Radio 4, at the Southbank Centre and at the Barbican – now the legendary rapping pensioner, Ida Barr (aka Christopher Green) is coming to Kennington later this month as part of the excellent Palace of Varieties. If you’re not familiar with Ms Barr, “the world’s first music hall singer turned RnB superstar” check her out in the clip above.

Palace of Varieties is a sporadic Camberwell-born variety show – rather than a venue – and it sets up shop on 28 September in SE11’s Cinema Museum. With the theme Miracles of Music Hall, the Palace will host, along with Ida, performers including the Dulwich Ukulele Orchestra, Edinburgh Fringe acts Jody Kamali and Frank Sanazi as well as “magical innovator” Ben Hart.
