Meditation on an Ending is a haunting exhibition of photographs of pubs at closing time is on in Bermondsey until 5 October.
There’s a fascinating interview with the photographer, Chilean artist Nicolas Sanchez, on our sister site Kentishtowner today in which the London-dwelling Chilean artist describes pubs as being “like ships in the night. A mid-distance front take, showing the shadowy exterior, empty streets, abandoned bikes, useless phone cabins, mailboxes, everything lit by a few lamps. And then the bright interior that invites us to look in on what’s happening inside. A bunch of people hanging onto the remnants of that damned hour when pubs are almost closing.”

my favourite is Southampton Arms (the one in this post), love the way in which the interior atmosphere can be sensed from the outside, in the window glass..
