With the recent Lumiere London festival deemed a massive success, it seems this forthcoming SE21 two-dayer might see queues snaking right back into Dulwich Village.
Why? Well, the grounds of the Picture Gallery are set to transform into a “world of light and fire” next month to celebrate the opening of new exhibition, Nikolai Astrup: Painting Norway.
On the first weekend in February, fire sculpture specialists Walk the Plank will slip in after dusk and magically turn the whole place into what they’re calling a “live fire garden”, evoking the colour and warmth of the blazing Midsummer bonfires in Astrup’s paintings.
Visitors can explore flame-lined paths amongst copper flowers that appear to breathe fire, scorching sculptural trees, and commissioned fire boxes featuring designs which cast a nod to Astrup’s bonfire paintings.
You’ll also be able to enjoy an evening wander through the Gallery’s permanent collection. And for sustenance, winter refreshments will include Herne Hill’s excellent La Tartiflette, as well as hot cider and hot chocolate to warm undoubtedly freezing fingers.
