Did you know that oasis-like SE24 secret the Lido Cafe has just started to host talented London chefs and streetfood traders at its poolside dining space?
Their new evening “pop-ups” (why always that word?) launched last week with Tem Ban’s fresh take on traditional Thai food, and the kitchen collaborations are set to run every Thursday and Friday evening, the idea being to offer diverse cuisines in what is undeniably a unique local setting.
During February expect masterful modern cooking techniques from Tem Ban’s head chef Craig Broadhurst, with intriguing dishes like deep fried grey mullet and shredded pigs’ ears with burnt sour red chilli sauce. Cocktails include watermelon bellinis and whiskey sours, but there are of course local craft beers and fine wines.
Craig Broadhurst’s pretty much a chef to watch, having sharpened his Thai skills at the Begging Bowl in Peckham, Thai Grill at Bar Story and most recently hip Soho joint Smoking Goat.
And what do you mean you’ve never been to the Lido Cafe? Are you nuts? Nestled right in lovely Brockwell Park and boasting views over the 1930s Grade-II listed outdoor swimming pool, there are candlelit tables overlooking the canopied deck and shimmering pool. Perfect for hot dates and old married couples alike. Ahem.
Oh, and if you prefer to see the place (or your date) by daylight, there’s an all-day brunch menu too.

belowtheriver thanks for the mention, much appreciated!
I ate there last week and thought the food was mostly rubbish. Great PR, great images sent out, but poor food and bad service. They create high expectations but what appears in random order in front of the diners is utterly different. It is indeed a lovely space.
ClaphamConnect thanks very much! Hope you can make it? We have a few spaces left for Saturday evening…
