1. Brockwell Lido
If you’re in the market for a swim in a beautiful setting, Brockwell Lido is the place to come. It’s 50m of crystal clear water, which is cold enough to cool you down in the sun – and bring you back to life in the colder months. I absolutely the Lido Cafe too – perfect for a cup of tea with a view to warm up after your swim. Info here
2. Brown and Greens in Mayow Park
There’s a couple of Brown and Greens popping up around South London, but my favourite is tucked away in Mayow Park close to Sydenham station. Perfect for gorgeous breakfasts and home to some pretty incredible gluten and dairy free cakes. Info here
3. The Horniman Museum
While it can get a bit mad on a weekend when it’s packed with families, it’s always nice to stroll around the Horniman Museum and Gardens. Grab a great view of the city from the top of the hill in one of South London’s most beautiful green areas or go and meet the infamous giant Walrus inside the museum if you’re that way inclined. 4. Dulwich Park
Apparently covering a massive 29 hectares of ground, this bucolic space is a bit of an oasis in the middle of an otherwise fairly busy area. It’s home to a boating lake (with rowing boats and pedals), a cafe, and you can hire a brilliant banana bike to take in all the sights.
5. Tooting Market
Recently renovated, the market is a far cry from its old corn-selling days. Home now to Franco Manca, a juice bar, Brickwood coffee, a wine bar and the Graveney Gin bar – not to mention legions of brilliantly useful and longstanding stalls and shops too – it more than rivals the more famous Brixton Market for atmosphere. 6. Pop Brixton
Pop Brixton opened last summer and is a community project to support local jobs and enterprise. For local people, it’s a hive of live music, delicious street food (hello Donostia Social Club!) and independent shops. What’s not to love? More info
7. The dinosaurs in Crystal Palace Park
While I know I’ve already mentioned the boating lake at Dulwich Park, hopping in a pedalo at Crystal Palace Park means you’ll be able to take in the unique beasts that grace the park’s shores. Dating back to 1852, they’re quite the sight to behold. More info
8. Maltby Street Market
Tucked away down a back street, not far from big sibling Borough Market, Maltby Street Market is a treat for all the senses every weekend (read a review here). Sights of delicious treats, smells of hot, fresh food being prepared, the sounds of the bustle of the market and the taste of all the delicious foods linger temptingly in the air: a must visit for any foodie. 9. Frank’s, Peckham
Anyone who’s anyone knows Frank’s is the place to hang out in Peckham. Situated on top of a car park, it offers delicious cocktails, stellar views and supremely tasty snacks. Be quick though: it’s only open over the summer months. More info
10. The Ginger Line
OK so this one is a bit of a cheat because it’s not all south of the river but the GingerLine aims to create remarkable dining experiences anywhere on the London Overground. Locations are top secret until the last minute, but we can guarantee your bouche will be amused on one of these nights out. More info
