So this sounds pretty awesome: there’s a new Greek streetfood restaurant opening in Tooting Market.
Following on from its pop-ups and venues across London and Bristol, The Athenian founders Neo and Tim are now bringing their souvlaki to south London. Woop.
They name each site after a vibrant Athens neighbourhood, so the Tooting site will be called Petroupoli, its distinctive design inspired by a typical Greek urban market stall.
The simple menu features souvlaki and gyros (wraps), as well as well modern twists on specialities such as feta and courgette fritters. You know the score: it’s all about soft, handmade pita wrapped around lightly chargrilled meat or cheese which has been marinated in olive oil, lemon and Greek herbs, all served with an array of salads and sauces.
And here’s the deal: on Thursday 19th July – diarise this instantly – to celebrate the launch, The Athenian will be offering their signature souvlaki for free throughout the whole day. Yep, no money need be exchanged, nor cards be tapped. There’s no catch. See ya in SW17.
