Model Market 2019: what to look out for

The brilliantly atmospheric streetfeast returns this weekend for another season in SE13 with six new traders

Unbelievably it opened five years ago now: ever since, this indoor-outdoor sesh from Street Feast instantly became one of our favourites ever in the capital.

And now it’s May, Model Market is back again for grub, booze and lashings of SE13 vibes. Formerly an abandoned 1950s market, it has half a dozen new traders for 2019.

Some tips? This year Growlers will be bringing a taste of Lisbon to Lewisham, serving up bavette steak as a prego or on a bed of smoky piri piri fries, all blitzed with their signature Portuguese salsa.

Dim sum classics will be given a meat-free makeover by Phung Kay Vegan; Rastawaala will be offering their signature Kolkata kati roll, and Tucka Burger are on hand with stacked burgers like the Mark Tuckaberg (dry-aged beef, onion jam, smoked bacon, sriracha mayo, BBQ sauce).

And biggest new star arrival? Why, James Cochran, making his street food debut with Goat, serving jerk-spiced goat in coconut flatbreads. Oh yes.

High Line, SE13’s rooftop sunset strip, is one of a whopping six bars supplementing the food options, from a gin salon to rum shack, while the DJ line-up is curated by returning selector Ben Ashman.

In short, get queuing.

Model Market is open Friday and Saturday nights until September from 5pm to 1am, with entry free before 7pm and £3 after. Model Market, 196 Lewisham High Street, SE13 6LS  @streetfeastldn
