Do you love Brockwell Park Lido? Look at this poster

London Transport Museum has commissioned these atmospheric new posters celebrating the capital's open spaces

Brockwell Park:
‘ An urban oasis, within the city.’ Brockwell Park by Ruth Hydes

London Transport Museum are pretty good at working with emerging artists, and have just released a second collection of posters by the talented Ruth Hydes.

Titled London’s Open Spaces, they aim to capture the “sights, sounds and colours of alfresco London”. So, we reckon, the perfect visual to ease our way into the bank holiday weekend.

Ruth Hydes is an award winning illustrator and painter, who works in a traditional way, paint on paper, and her sketchbook provides much of the inspiration for her work.

“The locations were chosen for their diversity,” she says. “The enchantment of Epping Forest, the ‘dreamspace’ of Primrose Hill and the confidence of Greenwich and the City. At each venue I took a series of photographs and made sketches, but most importantly of all was to feel the unique atmosphere of each place.”

So what did she make of Brockwell Park’s scenic pool? “Entering the Lido took me by surprise. An enclosed space, of glittering water, long low lines, speeding swimmers, and big skies. An urban oasis, within the city.

“I wanted to capture the precision of its lines, feelings of fitness and health, and another time.”
