Over in SE26 there’s been an annual celebration of all things creative for nearly a decade, with the first one taking place back in 2009.
And this year more than 190 artists are taking part in the Sydenham Arts Festival. Fancy checking it out but not sure where to start? Try Mayow Park and the Brown and Green café, who are all hosting painters, photographers, jewellers, mosaic and installation artists.
From the park it’s a short walk to the Thorpes for painters, potters, basket-makers, glass artists and many more.
Along Sydenham Road brings you to three new venues – artists’ homes in Broseley Grove, Trewsbury Road (see main pic) and Girton Road.A stroll down Trewsbury and Cator Roads and a detour through Alexandra Park brings you to Parish Lane, where the Alexandra Nurseries are displaying the work of Pippa Stacey’s talented students. Hop on a 75 bus and come back to Sydenham to visit Grove Cottage and Priory Cottage for paintings and ceramics.
Once again this year up to thirty traders have also allowed artists to exhibit in their windows the High Street Art Gallery. Other high street venues include Kente Coffee Shop, Cherry & Ice, On The Hoof (see image above) and Here For Good.
After all that? Why, it’ll be time for a pint or two in the lovely garden The Dolphin – and then some more art, obvs.
