London Bridge: a month of free outdoor entertainment

squint theatre london bridge arts

This time last year in the SE1 vicinity – specifically Hay’s Galleria and London Bridge City Pier – open-air venues were alive with the likes of dancing masseuses wearing face-paint, Windy Man, the human statue who’s always in a hurry and theatrical pop-ups, such as the Suburban Silent Movie.

The month-long free arts festival was created to celebrate London 2012 and was the combined work of local businesses consortium, Team London Bridge, and the excellent arts charity Ideas Tap. Ideas Tap, which gives people a leg-up to get started in their creative careers, took on the job of commissioning of the acts. Sensing perhaps that we might be suffering withdrawal symptoms from last summer’s Olympic euphoria, the event is back. So who will they have chosen this year…?

There’s an easy way to find out: get down there between midday and 4pm each Thursday-Sunday and have a wander – Potters Fields Park has been added as a venue this year too. The festival continues until 8 September – but with a finale of dance all weekend between 5-8 September.

Performers taking part in London Bridge Arts Live can be seen at Hay’s Galleria, London Bridge City Pier, and Potters Fields Park from 12pm-4pm every Thursday-Sunday from 1 August to 8 September. Acts include live music, theatre, interactive improvisation and more. Find out more at the Team London Bridge website or by following them on Twitter @TeamLondonBdg
