Pinboard 25 July: Theatrical goings-on in Nunhead Cemetery, SE1 sing-alongs, SE5 knees-ups and the return of the Brixton Bolt

Brixton: SW9’s own Usain Bolt?

Last year saw the streets of SW9 host the very first Brixton Bolt, an event inspired by you-know-who and his spectacular Olympic action. Specifically, the organisers were inspired by Usain Bolt’s status as the fastest man in the world: “Imagine,” they mused, “being able to say, ‘I am the fastest man – or woman or child – in Brixton.’?” And so the Bolt was born: a series of urban races that you can see taking place above.

The organisers have been fundraising hard to make it happen all over again and now the event is on and happening this Sunday (28 July). Racers must live or work in Brixton, but audiences are welcome from everywhere to cheer them on.

Registration costs £1 and starts at midday, and the opening ceremony is at 1pm. It should all be over, with triumphant winners draped in medals, by 4pm – and then it’s off to Kaff Bar on Atlantic Road for the after-party. Brixtonbolt.com
