Pinboard: lazy Pompeii, wrestling in Southwark and sexy food

7. Get knitted!

Loughborough knitters

Do you like knitting (or want to have an excuse to learn?). Are you local to SE5? Then read on.

If you read our piece yesterday about the inspiring House in Loughborough Junction that’s working hard – and creatively – to get the area feeling better about itself, this update will make perfect sense. The House is planning to “yarn bomb” Loughborough Junction and they are handing out balls of wool to anyone up for taking part. The idea is to knit enough colourful cosies to perk up the street furniture in the area – and they are keen to recruit more needle-wielding volunteers to make it happen.

Fancy joining in? Just email them at thehouseinthejunction@gmail.com, or drop into the knitting club on Wednesday evenings at Sunshine International Arts, right next to LJ station (it’s where some rather spectacular Carnival costumes get made, so you will be in experienced hands). You can knit in situ or just grab a bag of – carefully colour-coordinated and cheerily bright – wool. The House always do their community building in style.
