3. Book your tickets for the National Theatre’s new pop-up Shed
Earlier this week, the National opened the doors to the big new red building that you might have walked past and wondered about. Now you know, it’s the South Bank’s newest theatre space, the Shed.
Attached to the main theatre, but with its own bar, box office and entrance, the Shed is a temporary construction, and an alterative in size and price to the main National Theatre spaces. Inside, there are just 225 seats and tickets range from a friendly £12 to just £20. The opening play, which debuted on Tuesday and runs until 18 May, is Table, written by Tanya Ronder and directed by Rufus Norris (London Road, Dr Dee, Broken). The play uses the eponymous everyday piece of furniture as a device to tell a multi-generational family story of “love, ghosts, belonging, identity and the things we pass on”. Want to check it out? Here’s a little film about the production.
