5. The Charlie Chaplin Festival

Handout publicity photo of bowler hat and cane that belonged to silent film star Charlie ChaplinNope. We never knew there was an annual Charlie Chaplin festival in SE17 either. But it makes sense, seeing as the silent comedy superstar was born locally, supposedly on East Street, in 1889. The celebrations, which run until 20 April, kick off with a themed fun run in Burgess Park on Sunday (there’s still time to enter!) and also include a Charlie Chaplin lookalike competition on the final Friday.

Find out more and download your fun-run entry form at the SE17 website.
